1 John 2:8-11 Again, a new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining. 9 He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. 10 He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. 11 But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
Yesterday we declared that we walk in the light as He is in the light and the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin. Now, let’s turn our attention to this test of love given to us in 1 John 2. This test is simple and direct. Do you hate your brother, or do you love him? This is referring to those in the church. The Bible is clear that we are (men and women) co-heirs with Christ, meaning that we are brothers and sisters in the spiritual. We are the sons of God or another term for that is heirs. Those who inherit the Kingdom. We must be careful and diligent to abide in the light so that we do not stumble. That means we must check our hearts often for offense that breeds darkness that leads us astray and causes us to become blind.
Action: Is there anyone who is a brother or sister in Christ that you have offended or who has offended you? I encourage you to have the conversation, risk the uncomfortable feelings, and be reconciled to one another. Do not delay!
Darkness is creeping.
